Malta and the European Union

Malta ascended to the European Union on May 1, 2004. After joining the European Union, Malta has become a bridgehead between Europe, the Middle East and the African continent by spreading its influence over the Mediterranean Sea. One of the leading universities in Malta is the University of Malta, a national university, which currently has 11,500 students, including 1,000 international students from 92 countries around the world.

Malta Politics

Malta is dominated by two politically contrasting political parties: the Nationalist Party and the Malta Labor Party. It is interesting to note that the public's interest in politics is relatively ardent compared to other countries and elections always maintains a high turnout of more than 96%.

The Labor Party won the general election in 2013. In recent years, the prime minister's wife has been under pressure from the opposition Nationalist Party to report that he established a paper company in Panama illegally.
